The Legion of Mary Ministry has been an active part of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish for over 20 years. The Legion of Mary was begun by Fr. Frank Duff, in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 7, 1921, and is now in over 170 countries in the world.
What is the Legion of Mary?
The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization of the lay apostolate in which Catholic men and women sanctify themselves through prayer and spiritual work in union with Our Lady under the guidance of the clergy. There are two types of Membership: Active and Auxiliary.

Legion members strive to become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. The active Legion members meet once a week, on Tuesdays for one and a half hours. We begin our gathering by praying the Rosary. After that, we read some passages from selected spiritual books for prayer and reflection. The prayer meeting ends with planning for spiritual work for the week which is two hours per week. The Spiritual work includes: visiting convalescent homes and homebound; visiting, and praying with the mentally disabled where we also provide rosaries and holy cards; door to door evangelization; Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, and rotation of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Mary. Through all these spiritual works, the Legion members actively participate in the life of the parish.

Another type of affiliation is through the Auxiliary Membership. This is the prayer wing of the Legion of Mary. Auxiliary members are lay, priests, or religious unable to assume the duties of an active member. The duties of the Auxiliary members are:
Auxiliary members are supplying prayer power to Mary to glorify her Son and aid her in Her work to crush evil and advance the reign of Her Son, Jesus Christ as well as to support the active members through prayers.
Participation in the Legion of Mary will enrich your spiritual life.
